Monday Misprices for the Travelers Championship
Sub $8K Draftkings Value Plays by @Blatant_Chief
It was finally Jon Rahm’s time for his first major breakthrough with a victory in the US Open at his favorite place, Torrey Pines. Despite being massively overweight on #Rahmbo, several other big names played poorly as often happens at tournaments as difficult as this one. Nevertheless, we head back to the East Coast this week for the Travelers Championship. Played at TPC River Highlands, it is a short, Par 70 track in Connecticut that tour pros are very familiar with. The course is a Pete Dye design with east coast poa on the greens. Several of the world’s elite will be making the trip cross-country to compete including defending Champ DJ (61 here), Cantlay (shot 60 here), and the triple Bs: Bubba (3x winner), Brooks, and Bryson. Always one of the best attended events of the year, fans should be in for a treat.
Now, without further adieu, here are my top values under $8,000 on Draftkings...
$7,800-MAX HOMA-He disappointed yet again at a major where high expectations were placed upon his shoulders. Still-this seems like a great value play in a bounceback spot for a guy who clearly wants to show the Twitterverse his game is no joke. He will breakthrough in a major soon, but until then, he must be played on easy courses with poa greens.
$7,700-SAMMY THE BULL-A $1,000 misprice based on his raw talent, YTD form, and success on Poa. Pure and simple, play the boy.
$7,600-DOC REDMAN-Could be the highest owned player on the board, but for good reason. The Clemson standout seemingly rediscovered his one true authentic swing and overall immense talent at Congaree. The kid won the US Amateur so he obviously has game, it’s just a matter of time before his first W.
$7,300-EMILIANO GRILLO-EMILIANOOOO! (A Night at the Roxbury fans will get this, I hope). Just take a peek at his 3-month ball-striking and T2G numbers and you’ll see why I’m intrigued...
$7,300-RICKIE FOWLER-We know it must have been gut-wrenching to miss out on the US Open for the first time in eight years, at his hometown course no less. However, this may be just the fuel Rickie needs to get back to T5 lurkage. Add that to his improving form, prior success at Dye tracks, and the fact he will become a #GirlDad soon (mazel tov), and it seems to me Rickie will find the River Highlands to his liking this week.
$7,200-SNEDS-Same narrative as Fowler: improving form + course fit + sentimental US Open vengeance narrative = auto T-20 play.
$7,200-GUIDO MIGLIOZZI-My paesano is on a monumental heater beginning several months ago on the Euro tour, leading right into a 4th place at the US Open, first career major. The kid’s special, period. If I’ve learned anything it’s you don’t leave the table on a heater, especially with a spot on the Ryder Cup team at stake.
$7,100-MAC HUGHES-Imploded as expected on the back 9 yesterday at Torrey, but that means nothing to me this week. A short course with poa greens for one of the world’s best putters-where do I sign up?
$7,000-CHEZ REAVIE-”Yeah, the golf course is great. You can shape it both ways off the tee; hit every club in your bag from longer irons to short irons. It’s just a test of all your shots. That’s something I like. I’m a shot maker. I like to work it both ways. Fortunately I don’t have to hit hybrid like I did at Bethpage. I’ve always loved the layout since the first time I came here. Just the way the holes are shaped you can shape shots and think around the greens. It’s a great challenge and something I really enjoy.” Enough said...
$7,000-COUSIN KYLE STANLEY-A nice convergence of solid course form and improving recent form. We know this cat can go low if the flatstick cooperates (love him FRL if he gets a morning tee time and conditions are primed for scoring), and thus should be sprinkled accordingly.
Sicko Specials-Sub $7K (tread lightly): LIPSKY, ARMOUR, SEIFFERT, UNCLE VAUGHN, KODAIRA, DENNY BOY, MALNAUGHTY, and BRIAN GAY.
BOL TO ALL!
